Cedar Park Regional Medical Center Acquires Firefly Technology to Enhance Anatomical Visibility During Robotic Surgery Cases
4/17/2015
April 17, 2015— Cedar Park Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) has recently acquired the Firefly ™ System to provide integrated fluorescence imaging to provide real-time, image-guided identification of the key anatomical landmarks during surgery using near- infrared technology. Fluorescence imaging allows surgeons to see and assess the anatomy better than the naked eye, further enhancing the unique vision, precision and control of minimally invasive robotic surgery.
The Firefly ™ is FDA-approved for select surgery cases involving the kidneys, pelvic floor, peritoneum, gastrointestinal track, and gallbladder. Dr. Bratcher Runyan was the first surgeon at CPRMC to perform robotic assisted surgery with the Firefly ™. He stated, “Robotic surgery has enhanced the precision of surgery and simultaneously the Firefly™ allows me to visualize the organs with much greater clarity. It is remarkable to experience the evolution of my field first hand with these technological advancements.”
