Cedar Park Regional Medical Center is First Hospital in Williamson County to Earn National Accreditation for Bariatric Surgery from American College of Surgeons
2/28/2014
February 27, 2014— Cedar Park Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) has been accredited as a Level 2 facility under the Bariatric Surgery Center Network (BSCN) Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). CPRMC is the first facility in Williamson County to receive BSCN accreditation. The accreditation means CPRMC has demonstrated a commitment to deliver the highest quality of care to its bariatric patients. To earn the accreditation, CPRMC demonstrated the institutional performance criteria outlined by the BSCN Accreditation Standards. Accredited bariatric surgery centers provide the hospital resources necessary for the optimal care of morbidly obese patients. These centers demonstrate their commitment to provide the full spectrum of support and care for patients, both pre- and post-operatively. Brad Holland, chief executive officer of CPRMC said, “Receipt of this accreditation only validates what we already know through our patients’ experiences and quality data. I am proud to share this validation with our multidisciplinary team of associates and physicians who have worked diligently to create a nationally recognized care experience.”
In the United States, more than 15 million people suffer from severe obesity, and the numbers continue to rise. Obesity increases the risks of chronic diseases such as Type II diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea. According to CPRMC’s Bariatric Program medical director, Nicole Basa, MD, “I am so proud of our Bariatric Surgical Program at Cedar Park Regional. We provide exceptional care and support for the bariatric surgical patient through our multidisciplinary staff of surgeons, dietitians, physical therapists, bariatric coordinator, psychological services and support group staff. I am happy that we have received a designation of excellence by the American College of Surgeons. This will help to let the community know what a great program we have here. I am glad to be a part of it.”
CPRMC is located in the greater Austin area and offers regular seminars on weight loss surgery. For more information, call the Bariatric Program at (512) 528-7317.
