8/28/2014
August 27, 2014— Cedar Park Regional Medical Center will conduct an emergency management exercise on the morning of August 27, 2014, with the participation of the Cedar Park Police Department, Cedar Park Fire Department, Williamson County EMS, and the Capital Area Trauma Regional Advisory Council. Comprehensive planning for the disaster drill will take place in non-patient care areas and focus on the multi-agency response during an active shooter scenario.
Matthew Berry, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center’s trauma manager said, “This exercise strengthens a comprehensive and integrated emergency management system that coordinates community resources to protect lives. It demonstrates a strong collaboration between numerous entities that serve the public.”
An Active Shooter is an individual with no method to their victim selection. The subject actively engages in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined or populated area. With an unpredictable behavioral pattern, active shooter situations can rapidly progress. According to the Department of Homeland Security, customers and clients are likely to follow the lead of employees and managers during an active shooter situation.
